The problem with expecting unicorns
One of the biggest issues for service charges is finding the right people and retaining their expertise.
Unfortunately, in many cases, we're setting ourselves up to fail, by expecting unicorns.
Does this sound familiar?
You need to be qualified as an accountant.
3-5 years experience in service charges in the sector
You need to have an extensive understanding of legislation and case law
You must have fantastic attention to detail
You must be good with customers and expected to attend evening meetings
You will have a responsibility for millions of pounds in income
Salary: £30-32k
These have all been taken from job profiles I could find for roles in the sector.
Just because we can all picture a unicorn in our head, doesn't mean they exist. Similarly, just because we have a list of desirable requirements, doesn't mean there are people out there who have them all... and if they do, they are probably looking for more than £30k a year!
